The first official trailer for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners II has finally dropped, giving fans a a brand new look at Studio Trigger’s return to the acclaimed cyberpunk universe. Following the breakout success of the original series, the sequel promises a fresh story, a new cast, and an even darker descent into the criminal underworld of the future.
Unlike the first season, which followed David Martinez and his doomed rise through Night City’s mercenary ranks, Edgerunners 2 introduces an entirely new group of characters navigating survival in a city that thrives on violence and ambition.
The trailer highlights four central figures:
- Weak Kingsley, a seasoned but washed-up edgerunner struggling with his past glory
- D, a young man from the nomadic Snake Nation seeking revenge for his family
- Talia Yang, a corpo operative with a taste for chaos and bloodshed
- Roman Carax, an aspiring journalist drawn into Night City’s criminal depths
The first thing that grabs you instantly in this trailer is the striking and deliberate shift in art direction. Where the first season was drenched in bright neon vibrant colors, this new season leads you into something far more darker, this VHS inspired aesthetic feels unstable, and deeply unsettling. It doesn’t just look different; it feels different. And that change perfectly matches the tone of the world of nightcity and the story being told.
This is no longer a story that hides behind spectacle and shine. It leans fully into despair. The visual language itself seems to echo emotional collapse, as if the world is slowly breaking down along with its characters. In one particularly heavy moment, we even get a glimpse of a character potentially taking their own life. Meanwhile, Weak Kingsley appears to be spiraling, showing clear signs that he may be succumbing to cyberpsychosis, adding another layer of psychological fragility to an already unstable world.
Everything about this season’s presentation suggests it's going to be more dramatic and action fulfilled. Where the previous season balanced its darker elements with romance and emotional intimacy, this one looks far more focused on consequences, trauma, violence, and the psychological toll of living in nightcity. The story appears to be asking harder, sharper questions about survival, identity, and what’s left of a person after everything has been stripped away.
Director Kai Ikarashi, whose bold, cinematic vision immediately signals that this season is aiming higher in both scale and emotional weight. That vision is further elevated by lead character designer Kanno Ichigo, whose distinctive style helps ground the series’ striking new identity in something both stylized and deeply expressive.
