I got the lucky chance and great opportunity to be invited to an exclusive NVIDIA event that took place right before Gamescom. While there, I was finally able to get my hands on something I respectfully could not wait for any longer: Resident Evil Requiem.

My Day at Hafen 12

The event took place at Hafen 12, a fantastic location in Cologne near the port. It was an incredible experience where I got to meet many cool people from the industry, make some great new contacts, and chat with some developers.

On top of the amazing networking, I also got the opportunity to play some highly anticipated games like NTE, Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, Borderlands 4, Pragmata, and, of course, the absolute biggest one for me: Resident Evil Requiem.

It was an incredible opportunity that I am incredibly thankful for, and it gave me a really nice insight into the industry. But enough about that—let's get right into talking about the game you’ve all been waiting for: Resident Evil Requiem!

My First Encounter with Grace Ashcroft

Trapped in a chronic care center, you wake up in a room with absolutely no idea where you are. Someone has already taken your blood, and you start out bound to a medical chair. After managing to break free, you begin exploring the first few rooms, desperately trying to find a way out. I found a lighter early on, which was a lifesaver for checking my surroundings and brightening up the pitch-black environment.

As you push further into the area, you quickly realize you need to find a fuse to power up a gate to escape the facility. But while you're scrambling to figure that out, the game suddenly throws you into a terrifying hunted by an new Stalker like Mr.X or Jack Baker. You are pursued by a massive, hag-like monster creature that many fans refer to as "Big Mama."

She has a major weakness to light, which becomes your primary weapon. Along with running for your life, you can interact with light switches and turn on lamps to scare her away for a few seconds. This worked great at first, but as time went on, her AI actually adapted to it. She started learning my movement strategies and even managed to kill me once!

Once you finally grab the fuse, something massive happens—which I won't spoil here—but it completely hooked me for the full game. I seriously cannot wait to see more of this title. It gave me exactly what I want from a classic, old-school Resident Evil experience. If you are planning to visit Gamescom this year, please do yourself a favor, take your time, and go get your hands on this demo. It is absolutely fantastic, and I can't wait to see what else Capcom has in store for us as we get closer to launch!

After that terrifying experience, I rewarded myself with a nice meal that was offered at the venue. Again, a huge thank you to NVIDIA and BXDXO for the opportunity to experience all of this!
