Capcom and Square Enix have officially announced that the beloved character, Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII is joining Street Fighter 6 as one of the game's guest fighters. The news came out during the Summer Game Fest 2026 where Street Fighter 6's Year 4 Character Pass was revealed with Tifa along with Yasmine, Arjun, and Bosch.
Tifa's inclusion in Street Fighter 6 is momentous given that she becomes not only one of the game's most recognizable guest fighters but also one of the most anticipated ones. With her quick style of fighting, powerful moveset, and overall appearance in the Final Fantasy VII remake, she is undoubtedly one of the best additions to Street Fighter 6's roster yet.
Capcom Reinvents Tifa for Street Fighter 6
According to Street Fighter 6 director Takayuki Nakayama, Tifa's fighting style was reworked for Street Fighter 6 instead of using her moveset from the Final Fantasy games. Although her design and fighting style were inspired by the FF series, her animations and abilities have been changed to better suit Street Fighter 6's system. Moreover, Capcom announced that they have also worked on a special Materia-based gameplay feature that will add unique actions and abilities to her moveset not seen in any of the previous Street Fighter games.
Tifa will have a variety of alternate costumes that will allow her to emulate different outfits from varying chapters of the Final Fantasy VII remake. In addition to her default aesthetic that was teased in the media for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, a battle-ready cosplay of her iconic design from the original 1997 release will also be available. Additionally, several colors and thematic accessories will be available via the game’s Outfit and Avatar customization systems, according to Capcom.
Beyond her inclusion as a playable character, Street Fighter 6 will feature a special crossover event that will allow players to unlock character-specific accessories that emulate the look of the Buster Sword, Shinra insignias, and Midgar-themed attire. The Battle Hub will also feature Battle, Music, Emote, and Title packs that will be inspired by Final Fantasy. Moreover, a special stage based on the Sector 7 Slums has been revealed, which will also feature the game’s reimagined tracks.

Outside of Tifa, Street Fighter 6's Year 4 Character Pass also contains three other fighters. While Yasmine and Arjun are completely new fighters made exclusively for Street Fighter 6, Bosch finally enters the roster after being a support character in Street Fighter 6's World Tour mode. As such, Year 4 will become the first Character Pass to contain mostly new fighters rather than returning fighters.
Although details about Tifa's moveset have not been revealed yet, the announcement trailer showed off her powerful punches, quick movements, and unique style of fighting. With her official in-game trailer set to release closer to her launch, more details about her gameplay style are expected to be released in the coming months. Set to release in early 2027, Street Fighter 6 continues to make major updates to the roster with fighters being added from both internal and external sources. With that said, Tifa's inclusion has become one of the most exciting announcements of not only Street Fighter 6 but fighting games in general for the next year.
